1. Introduction

This Wig Care Policy provides guidance for caring for wigs, donor hair, closures, frontals, and related hair products purchased from The Hair Boutique by Felicity.

Proper care may help maintain the product’s:

  • Appearance
  • Texture
  • Softness
  • Color
  • Lace
  • Cap construction
  • Manageability
  • Useful lifespan

Care requirements may differ depending on whether the product is made from human hair, donor hair, synthetic fiber, or heat-resistant synthetic fiber.

Always follow any product-specific instructions supplied with your wig.

3. Applicable Ghanaian Laws

This policy is intended to operate in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Ghana, including, where applicable:

  • Sale of Goods Act, 1962 (Act 137);
  • Electronic Transactions Act, 2008 (Act 772), as amended;
  • Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851);
  • Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843);
  • Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038);
  • applicable Food and Drug Authority requirements for cosmetics, adhesives, and related hair-care products; and
  • any other applicable Ghanaian law, regulation, or lawful regulatory directive.

Nothing in this policy excludes or limits a customer’s mandatory rights under Ghanaian law.

4. Inspect Your Wig Before Use

Inspect your wig immediately after receiving it and before:

  • Wearing it
  • Installing it
  • Cutting the lace
  • Removing tags or hygiene seals
  • Washing it
  • Applying heat
  • Colouring or bleaching it
  • Applying glue or adhesive
  • Altering the cap

Confirm that the following match your order:

  • Hair type
  • Texture
  • Length
  • Color
  • Density
  • Lace type
  • Cap size
  • Construction
  • Parting
  • Quantity
  • Overall condition

If the product appears defective, damaged, incorrect, or materially different from its description, contact us before using or altering it.

5. Reporting a Product Problem

Visible problems should preferably be reported within 48 hours after delivery.

Your report should include:

  • Full name
  • Order number
  • Telephone number
  • Description of the problem
  • Clear photographs or video
  • Photograph of the packaging and delivery label

The 48-hour reporting request does not remove a legal right concerning a hidden defect that could not reasonably have been discovered within that period.

Keep the product, packaging, tags, and accessories while the complaint is being investigated.

6. Identify the Hair Type

Before washing, styling, or applying heat, confirm the type of hair.

Human Hair or Donor Hair

Human-hair products may generally tolerate careful washing and controlled heat. However, excessive heat, chemicals, and bleaching can still cause dryness, shedding, or breakage.

Synthetic Hair

Ordinary synthetic fibers may melt, shrink, frizz, or permanently change shape when exposed to heat.

Heat-Friendly Synthetic Hair

Some synthetic fibers can tolerate limited heat. Do not exceed the temperature recommended by the manufacturer or supplier.

If you are unsure about the hair type, contact us before applying heat or chemicals.

7. Detangling

Detangle the wig gently before washing, styling, or storing it.

Recommended steps:

  1. Place the wig on a secure wig stand.
  2. Divide the hair into manageable sections.
  3. Begin detangling from the ends.
  4. Gradually work toward the roots.
  5. Support the hair with one hand to reduce pressure on the lace.
  6. Use a wide-tooth comb, wig brush, or suitable detangling brush.
  7. Use your fingers for delicate curls where appropriate.

Avoid:

  • Pulling forcefully
  • Brushing wet hair aggressively
  • Combing directly against delicate lace
  • Tearing through knots
  • Scratching the lace with a comb

Excessive force may cause shedding, breakage, or lace damage.

8. Washing Frequency

A wig does not have to be washed after every wear.

Washing frequency may depend on:

  • How often it is worn
  • Perspiration
  • Product buildup
  • Dust
  • Odour
  • Installation method
  • Weather
  • Hair type

Overwashing may dry out the hair, weaken knots, fade color, or reduce the product’s lifespan.

Wash the wig when there is noticeable dirt, odor, or product buildup.

9. Washing Human-Hair Wigs

Unless other instructions are provided:

  1. Detangle the wig before washing.
  2. Use cool or lukewarm water.
  3. Wet the hair in a downward direction.
  4. Apply a small amount of suitable shampoo.
  5. Smooth the shampoo gently through the hair.
  6. Do not rub, twist, or bunch the hair.
  7. Rinse thoroughly in a downward direction.
  8. Apply conditioner mainly to the middle and ends.
  9. Avoid applying heavy conditioner directly to lace knots.
  10. Rinse thoroughly.
  11. Gently squeeze out excess water.
  12. Blot with a clean towel without twisting.

Use shampoo and conditioner suitable for the particular hair type.

10. Washing Synthetic Wigs

For synthetic wigs:

  • Use cool water
  • Use products intended for synthetic hair
  • Do not scrub or twist
  • Rinse gently
  • Do not brush aggressively while wet
  • Allow the wig to air-dry naturally

Do not apply heat unless the wig is specifically described as heat-friendly.

11. Conditioning

Conditioning may help maintain softness and reduce tangling.

However:

  • Too much conditioner may create buildup
  • Heavy oils may make the hair greasy
  • Conditioner applied to knots may increase shedding
  • Synthetic wigs require appropriate synthetic products
  • Leave-in products should be used sparingly

Always choose products suitable for the hair type.

12. Drying

Allow the wig to air-dry on a clean wig stand in a ventilated area where possible.

Avoid:

  • Twisting or wringing
  • Storing the wig while wet
  • Direct flames
  • Very high heat
  • Excessive sunlight
  • Tumble drying
  • Sleeping in a wet wig

A wet wig stored in a closed bag may develop odor, mold, matting, or cap damage.

13. Heat Styling

Before using a hairdryer, straightener, or curling tool:

  • Confirm that the hair tolerates heat
  • Use the lowest effective temperature
  • Apply a suitable heat protector
  • Test a small hidden section
  • Avoid repeated passes
  • Keep heat away from the lace and cap
  • Turn off and safely store the tool after use

Excessive heat may:

  • Melt synthetic fibers
  • Dry out human hair
  • Weaken knots
  • Damage lace
  • Fade color
  • Change the curl pattern
  • Create a fire or burn risk

Damage caused by unsuitable or excessive heat may not qualify as a product defect.

This does not remove a remedy where a product was wrongly described as heat-resistant.

14. Colouring and Bleaching

Coloring, bleaching, and chemical processing may permanently alter the wig.

Possible effects include:

  • Dryness
  • Breakage
  • Shedding
  • Color variation
  • Weakened knots
  • Lace staining
  • Texture changes
  • Shorter product lifespan

We recommend using an experienced professional.

Before processing:

  • Confirm the hair type
  • Check whether it has already been processed
  • Test a hidden strand
  • Follow the product instructions
  • Use suitable protective equipment
  • Avoid mixing incompatible chemicals

Ordinary synthetic wigs should not be colored with human-hair dye.

15. Caring for Curly and Wavy Hair

For curly or wavy wigs:

  • Detangle in sections
  • Use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb
  • Begin at the ends
  • Avoid brushing dry curls aggressively
  • Apply a light, suitable moisturizing product
  • Reshape curls gently
  • Avoid excessive heavy oils
  • Allow the hair to air-dry

Curl patterns may loosen because of repeated washing, heat, brushing, and chemical processing.

16. Caring for Straight Hair

For straight wigs:

  • Detangle gently
  • Use lightweight products
  • Avoid excessive oil
  • Use controlled heat only where suitable
  • Protect the ends from dryness
  • Store the wig without creasing it

Repeated flat-ironing at high temperatures may dry out the hair.

17. Lace Care

Lace is delicate and must be handled carefully.

To protect it:

  • Do not pull the wig by the lace
  • Avoid scratching the lace
  • Do not comb forcefully near knots
  • Remove adhesive gently
  • Avoid heavy glue buildup
  • Keep excessive heat away from the lace
  • Do not cut beyond the intended lace area
  • Avoid stretching the lace unnecessarily

Lace damaged through forceful handling, unsuitable glue, or incorrect removal may not qualify as a manufacturing defect.

A lace defect present at delivery should be reported before installation.

18. Cutting the Lace

Before cutting the lace:

  • Confirm that the correct product was supplied
  • Try on the wig carefully
  • Confirm the cap size
  • Check the hairline and parting
  • Inspect the lace
  • Ensure you intend to keep the product

Cutting the lace is a material alteration and may affect a voluntary change-of-mind return.

It does not remove a remedy for a hidden defect that could not reasonably have been discovered earlier.

19. Wig Adhesives and Removers

Adhesives, sprays, gels, and removers may be regulated cosmetic or chemical products.

Customers should:

  • Use products intended for wig installation
  • Read the label
  • Check the expiry date
  • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions
  • Perform a patch test where directed
  • Avoid applying products to damaged skin
  • Avoid contact with the eyes
  • Use them in a ventilated area
  • Keep them away from children
  • Stop using them if irritation occurs

Never use industrial glue or another substance not designed for cosmetic or wig use.

The Food and Drugs Authority regulates cosmetics and relevant chemical products under Ghana’s Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851).

20. Allergies and Patch Testing

Where recommended, perform a patch test before using an adhesive, remover, color, or cosmetic product.

A patch test reduces risk but cannot guarantee that a reaction will never occur.

Stop using the product and seek medical assistance if you experience:

  • Severe irritation
  • Swelling
  • Burning
  • Blistering
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Eye reaction
  • Another serious symptom

Report a suspected defective or unsafe regulated product to us and, where appropriate, to the Food and Drugs Authority.

21. Wig Installation

Use an installation method suitable for:

  • The cap
  • The lace
  • The customer’s skin
  • The hair type
  • The intended period of wear

Avoid:

  • Excessive tension
  • Unsuitable glue
  • Adhesive on irritated skin
  • Incorrect cutting
  • Excessive heat
  • Forceful sewing
  • Heavy product buildup

An independent stylist is responsible for their own workmanship unless they are acting as our authorized representative.

22. Glueless Wigs

For glueless wigs:

  • Adjust bands carefully
  • Do not overtighten the wig
  • Position combs or clips comfortably
  • Do not force a cap that is too small
  • Protect the lace while adjusting
  • Remove the wig gently

Excessive tightness may cause discomfort, cap damage, or stress on natural hair.

23. Sleeping in a Wig

Where possible, remove the wig before sleeping.

If sleeping in an installed wig:

  • Detangle it gently
  • Loosely braid or wrap long hair
  • Use a satin or silk scarf or bonnet
  • Use a smooth pillowcase
  • Do not sleep with wet hair
  • Avoid pulling on the lace

Sleeping in a wig may increase friction, tangling, matting, shedding, and lace damage.

24. Swimming and Exercise

Chlorine, salt water, perspiration, and repeated moisture may affect the wig.

Before swimming:

  • Confirm that the wig is suitable
  • Secure it properly
  • Consider wearing a swimming cap
  • Protect delicate lace and adhesive

After swimming:

  • Rinse the wig where appropriate
  • Clean it according to the hair type
  • Allow it to dry fully
  • Detangle gently

Heavy exercise may increase perspiration and cause adhesive to loosen.

25. Caring for Wigs in Ghana’s Climate

Heat, humidity, dust, and perspiration may affect wigs.

In hot or humid conditions:

  • Avoid excessive product buildup
  • Allow the wig and cap to dry fully
  • Keep the scalp and hairline clean
  • Store the wig in a ventilated area
  • Monitor adhesive performance
  • Do not leave the wig in a hot vehicle
  • Avoid prolonged direct sunlight

Repeated exposure to sunlight may fade colored hair.

26. Storage

When the wig is not being worn:

  • Detangle it gently
  • Make sure it is completely dry
  • Place it on a wig stand or in suitable packaging
  • Keep it away from dust
  • Avoid crushing it
  • Protect it from direct sunlight
  • Store it in a cool, dry, and ventilated location
  • Keep it away from flames and excessive heat

Long wigs may be loosely braided before storage to reduce tangling.

27. Travelling With a Wig

When travelling:

  • Detangle the wig before packing
  • Ensure that it is dry
  • Use a wig bag, box, or protective case
  • Avoid placing heavy objects on it
  • Store liquids and adhesives separately
  • Comply with transport rules for liquids and chemicals
  • Reshape the wig carefully after unpacking

Never leave a damp wig inside a sealed bag for an extended period.

28. Product Buildup

Heavy oils, sprays, gels, edge-control products, makeup, and adhesives may create buildup.

Buildup may:

  • Attract dust
  • Create odor
  • Make hair stiff
  • Weigh down curls
  • Loosen knots
  • Discolored lace
  • Reduce manageability

Use hair products sparingly and clean the wig according to its hair type.

29. Shedding

Some minor shedding may occur during normal brushing, washing, and use.

Shedding may increase because of:

  • Rough detangling
  • Excessive pulling
  • Cutting wefts
  • Scratching lace
  • Conditioner applied to knots
  • Chemical processing
  • Excessive heat
  • Improper adhesive removal
  • Normal wear over time

Unusual or excessive shedding during first reasonable use should be reported with photographs or videos.

30. Tangling and Matting

Tangling may occur because of:

  • Friction
  • Dryness
  • Product buildup
  • Sleeping in the wig
  • Rough brushing
  • Wind
  • Damaged ends
  • Chemical processing
  • Poor storage
  • Contact with clothing

To reduce tangling:

  • Detangle regularly
  • Keep the hair properly moisturized
  • Protect it while sleeping
  • Store it correctly
  • Avoid heavy products
  • Pay attention to the nape area

Severe tangling immediately after delivery despite reasonable care should be reported.

31. Moisture, Odor, and Mold

Do not store a damp or dirty wig inside a sealed bag.

Trapped moisture may cause:

  • Odour
  • Mildew
  • Mould
  • Discoloration
  • Deterioration

Allow the wig to dry completely in a ventilated area before storage.

A wig with suspected mold should not be worn until it has been safely assessed and cleaned or disposed of.

32. Professional Maintenance

Professional maintenance may be appropriate for:

  • Deep cleaning
  • Lace repair
  • Knot maintenance
  • Cap adjustment
  • Restyling
  • Colouring
  • Bleaching
  • Adhesive removal
  • Wig restoration

Before allowing a third party to alter the wig, confirm:

  • The service to be performed
  • The provider’s experience
  • Products to be used
  • Price
  • Risks
  • Whether the work may affect a return claim

We are not responsible for damage caused by an independent service provider unless Ghanaian law provides otherwise.

33. Wig Lifespan

We do not guarantee a fixed lifespan for every wig unless an express written guarantee is provided.

The lifespan may depend on:

  • Hair type
  • Construction
  • Frequency of wear
  • Installation
  • Maintenance
  • Washing
  • Heat
  • Chemical processing
  • Storage
  • Climate
  • Customer handling

A statement that a wig “can last” for a particular period is an estimate based on proper care, not an unconditional guarantee.

This does not remove a customer’s remedy for a defect present when the product was supplied.

34. Care Products

Use shampoos, conditioners, adhesives, removers, and other products suitable for the particular wig and intended purpose.

Read and follow:

  • Usage directions
  • Ingredient information
  • Warnings
  • Expiry information
  • Storage instructions
  • Manufacturer guidance

Cosmetics and household chemical substances offered for sale in Ghana should comply with applicable Food and Drugs Authority requirements.

We do not claim that ordinary wig-care products treat or cure medical conditions.

35. Children and Safe Storage

Keep wigs, adhesives, chemicals, small accessories, and hot styling tools away from children unless used under responsible adult supervision.

Hot tools should:

  • Be placed on a heat-resistant surface
  • Be unplugged after use
  • Be allowed to cool
  • Be stored safely
  • Never be left unattended

Keep chemicals in their original labeled containers.

36. Medical Disclaimer

This policy provides general care information. It does not provide medical or dermatological advice.

Customers experiencing scalp disease, unexplained hair loss, infection, open wounds, persistent irritation, or another medical concern should consult a qualified healthcare professional.

A wig is not represented as a treatment or cure for alopecia, scalp disease, or another medical condition.

37. Improper Care and Product Claims

Damage caused after delivery by:

  • Excessive heat
  • Chemical processing
  • Improper washing
  • Forceful handling
  • Cutting
  • Poor installation
  • Unsuitable adhesive
  • Incorrect storage
  • Failure to dry the wig
  • Other improper alteration

may not qualify as a product defect.

Each complaint will be assessed using:

  • Product condition
  • Care instructions
  • Photographs or videos
  • Quality-control records
  • Nature of the alleged defect
  • Customer handling
  • Applicable Ghanaian law

This section will not be used to deny a genuine claim merely because a customer performed reasonable normal care.

38. Customer’s Statutory Rights

This Wig Care Policy does not remove a customer’s rights where a product:

  • Was defective when supplied
  • Was materially different from its description
  • Did not match an approved sample
  • Was not reasonably fit for an expressly communicated purpose
  • Was supplied in the wrong quantity
  • Otherwise breached a statutory condition or warranty

Such complaints will be assessed under Ghana’s Sale of Goods Act, Electronic Transactions Act, and our Returns, Exchanges, and Refunds Policy.

39. Product-Safety Complaints

For a complaint involving an adhesive, remover, cosmetic, or another FDA-regulated product, preserve:

  • Product
  • Packaging
  • Label
  • Batch number
  • Manufacturing and expiry information
  • Receipt
  • Photographs
  • Description of any reaction

Serious safety concerns may also be reported to the Food and Drugs Authority through www.fdaghana.gov.gh.

  • Products change

  • Ghanaian law changes

The updated version will be published with a revised “last updated” date.

A change will not unfairly remove a right connected to an existing purchase.
